You know, I learned something today. I learned that Detroit is a HORRIBLE place for creative people to live. And I learned that by going to Craig's List. In the Detroit section of the list, I noticed that there are extremely few freelance art jobs in Detroit. But when I went to the New York, Chicago and Los Angeles sections, I noticed those cities have freelance art jobs by the megaton. Therefore if I want to improve my chances of succeeding at art, I need to get my black ass out of Detroit. It's like living amongst the Borg Collective here anyway.

yeah, i was going to suggest something like artsopportunities.org, presuming the craigslist infrastructure didn't reach motor city, but it confirmed the dryness! I learned something too!
Then again, you might be comparing apples and pineapples..... New York and Los Angelos make even the San Francisco craigslist art job scene seem weak, but considering the size and population, and ohoh, Competition!!
....anyway, best of luck with your art and the impending move! :D -

Thu, April 6, 2006 - 6:35 PMIf you're any good, you'll do well in LA. Most of the freelance artists here are really low on talent.

Creative Centres
Sat, June 17, 2006 - 7:33 PMI don't know what Detroit is like, but Toronto is pretty bad for creative spirits as well. It is actually illegal to sell art on the street here. Canada in general is pretty bad for creative spirits, although Montreal, Quebec City, and Vancouver are better for artists than Toronto. The city of Toronto pretends to give a shit about artists, but all that people are concerned about there is making money.
Although Jamie Barr was from Detroit, wasn't he? The prodigy that wrote and drew 'The Crow'? -
